Children who report memories of past lives
Research into past-life memories and alleged reincarnation has grown steadily over recent decades, particularly through the pioneering work at institutions such as the University of Virginia’s Division of Perceptual Studies. For example, thousands of children worldwide have been documented making claims about previous lives—often between ages 2-6—with some cases including verifiable facts about a deceased person the child could not have known, and even birth-marks or birth-defects that correspond to wounds of that deceased individual. A systematic review of 78 such studies found that most investigations focus on children and frequently document supportive indicators (unusual behaviours, birthmarks) though also note that many studies rely on case-reports and culturally-specific samples.
Why this matters for intuitive and creative work
From the vantage of intuitive art, spiritual teaching and awakening practices, these findings offer a potent metaphor and creative framework: the idea that our consciousness may span more than one life, that memories or impressions might surface in subtle ways, and that the ‘inner self’ may have a far broader temporal landscape than we typically assume. While the research does not claim definitive ‘proof’ of reincarnation in a scientific sense, it does suggest that the continuity of consciousness, as well as embodied markers (e.g., birth-marks) and spontaneous recollections, are worthy of attention. Integrating this into my offerings I invite you to explore your own intuitive memories, symbols, and archetypal selves—not merely as one lifetime’s story, but as part of a potentially larger tapestry of soul-journey. It affirms that intuitive drawing, meditative exploration, and oracle-work are not only aesthetic or therapeutic practices, but may also engage deeper layers of your consciousness continuity and remembrance.
