Over the past two decades, researchers have explored what is sometimes called mediumship — the ability of certain individuals to receive information that appears to originate from deceased persons or non-ordinary sources. A substantial meta-analysis (covering 18 controlled experiments) found a consistent effect size of about .18 above chance (95% CI .12–.25) for information retrieval beyond known channels. Additional work has examined the lived experience and mental-health aspects of practising mediums, finding themes of resilience, ethical responsibility, identity‐integration and the importance of grounded supportive frameworks for integrating anomalous experiences.

What this research suggests is not only that anomalous information reception may occur under certain conditions, but also that the qualities of consciousness involved — awareness, altered state, receptivity, symbolic sense-making — overlap richly with the intuitive, creative and spiritual practices you already offer. For an artist-teacher working with intuitive drawing, meditations and inner-oracle work, this body of research adds a broader context: it supports the idea that intuition and communion with subtle, non-ordinary layers may be part of human potential. At the same time, the research underscores the importance of grounded practice – screening, ethics, integration – reminding us that intuitive gifts flourish best when supported by structure, reflection and alignment with purpose.
